Contents of a food parcel
Our Food Bank parcels have been nutritionally balanced to provide basic food for a week’s worth of meals.
We use a standard list of items to pack each food parcel and adjust the amount according to how many people there are in each household.
Where possible we will address any specific dietary needs you may have, for example if you require gluten free items or are vegetarian. However, we do ask that you take responsibility for checking all products we send to you carefully to ensure they are safe for you to consume. We can also adapt the food parcel according to the cooking facilities that you have available - we are aware that some people don’t have a hob and need food that can be microwaved or made up using a kettle.
A standard food parcel for one person for one week contains:
- Cereal or oats
- Tinned soup
- Tinned baked beans
- Tinned tomatoes
- Tinned vegetables
- Tinned fish such as tuna
- Tinned meats such as hotdogs, corned beef or tinned meat pie
- Rice pudding or custard
- Tinned fruit
- Pasta or rice
- Longlife milk
- Tea and coffee
- Squash or fruit juice
- Pasta sauce
- Tinned or dried potato
- Spread such as jam, marmite, honey or peanut butter
- A treat such as a bar of chocolate or some crisps
- Toilet roll
Contents may vary in line with the donations we receive and the stock we hold. Occasionally we are able to top up food parcels with fresh fruit and vegetables.
On request we can also supply small quantities of cat and dog food, cleaning products, toiletries and baby products such as nappies.
