Exmouth Food Bank December 2022 News

This month

In November we fed 770 people and distributed 309 parcels. Sadly, these are the highest figures we have recorded since the Food Bank began. The current demand is more than double the number of people we were supporting the same time last year.

Fortunately, donations of food and money are keeping pace with this demand and, due to the amazing generosity of the people of Exmouth, the Food Bank remains in a strong position to be able to respond.

Our 10th anniversary

The Exmouth Food Bank (originally the Exmouth Community Larder) was founded in November 2012. We recognised this significant milestone last month with a traditional afternoon tea for all of our current and previous volunteers.

This was a great opportunity to look back over the past 10 years and show our appreciation for all the hard work that our amazing  team of volunteers have given over this period. It was also a chance to catch up with friends old and new over a cup of tea and some cake.

Christmas Hampers

This month we will be packing 250 delicious festive hampers in addition to our standard food parcels.

Each hamper will consist of ham, biscuits for cheese, fruit juice, savoury snacks, a Christmas cake, mince pies, a Christmas pudding, a variety pack of sweet biscuits and a box of chocolates. We would like to extend a big ‘THANK YOU’ to all of the organisations and individuals who have helped to donate these supplies.

Hampers will be distributed to our clients the week beginning Monday 12 December. This year we will also provide hampers for some of the agencies we work closely with namely Open Door, Home Start and local churches.

Some families may struggle this time of year with all the competing demands for their money and we hope that these items will be well received and will go a little way to help ease the additional cost of the festive season.

Donation from the Mayor of Exmouth

Exmouth Food Bank is the Mayor’s chosen charity of the year along with Littleham Community Fridge. Money collected from the Mayor’s Civic Ceremony held at Holy Trinity Church in October was presented to the team at the Food Bank. It was lovely to be able to spend some time with Councillor Steve Gazzard and for him to be able to talk to volunteers about the work they do.
