In 2025 our loyal team of volunteers packed and distributed over 2,900 parcels that provided food for 5,897 people. Between January and June use of the Food Bank began to steady and fall when compared to the same period in 2024. We were delighted as it felt that the cost of living crisis was easing. However, during the summer months of 2025 we experienced a seasonal influx of homeless males, many seeking work in the local pubs and restaurants in Exmouth. We worked closely with East Devon District Council to ensure that, wherever possible, these individuals were able to come off the street and access temporary accommodation. In addition, particularly during August, we saw a sharp increase in families seeking help to provide food for their children during the summer holidays.
The demand for our services continued to rise from September through to December and month on month we provided more food to those in need than during the same period in 2024. Reasons for this included the fact that the price of staple foods continued to rise which, when compounded with rising utility bills during the winter months, forced those who were 'just about coping' to seek help, particularly towards the end of a month. At the same time we also experienced a rise in people being referred to us as a result of benefit delays and appeals as the government was replacing Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) with Universal Credit (UC)
